Environmental Law Network Again Ranked as a Band 1 Global-wide Legal Network

Chambers Global: The World’s Leading Business Lawyers has again recognized the Environmental Law Network (ELN) as a highly recommended Band 1 Environmental Legal Network for its 2018 edition. ELG Named a 2018 “Best Law Firm”

Bloomberg, Hefner and Greenhouse to present at 2017 CSWEA/AWMA-UMS Conference on the Environment

ELG attorneys Jon Bloomberg, Bill Hefner and Jeremy Greenhouse will present at this year’s Central States Water Environment/Air and Waste Management Associations – Upper Midwest Section’s Conference on the Environment.  Jon will be co-presenting on the topic of air permitting and compliance in Minnesota for startup, shutdown and malfunction activities, Bill will provide an update on New Source Review enforcement and possible program revisions, and Jeremy will provide an update on federal and state water law developments.  The Conference will be held on November 8, 2017, at the Minneapolis Convention Center.  Further details on the conference can be found here and registration is available here.

ELG to Host Annual Conference of the Environmental Law Network

On September 21 and 22, 2017, ELG will host the annual conference of the Environmental Law Network (ELN). ELG is proud to be a member of the ELN. ELN is an environmental law firm network that makes local representation available nationwide. Through ELN, more than 250 environmental attorneys share ideas, information, experiences, and contacts to increase the value of legal representation for their respective clients. ELN also has foreign affiliates in Argentina, Brazil, Canada, France, Italy, Mexico, the United Kingdom and Spain. Leaders in each of the member firms average more than 20 years of experience in the field. The annual conference will be held at the Loews Hotel in Minneapolis and will feature numerous speakers including Minnesota Pollution Control Agency Commissioner, John Linc Stine.

Payne and Hefner Named Best Lawyers, Hefner Named Super Lawyer for 2017

ELG attorneys Jim Payne and Bill Hefner have again been chosen by their peers for inclusion on the list of The Best Lawyers in America® for 2017.  First published in 1983, Best Lawyers employs an exhaustive annual peer-review survey of more than 50,000 attorneys who vote on the legal abilities of other lawyers practicing in the same and related specialties in their geographical area. Jim and Bill are grateful to be selected by their peers in the Minnesota environmental bar for these honors.

Bill also has been selected for inclusion in the 2017 list of Minnesota Super Lawyers.  Super Lawyers, a Thomson Reuters business, is a rating service of attorneys from more than 70 practice areas who have attained a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement. The annual selections are made using a multiphase process that includes a statewide survey of lawyers, an independent research evaluation of candidates and peer reviews by practice area. The Minnesota Super Lawyers list is published online and locally in Minneapolis/St. Paul Magazine, Twin Cities Business and the Minnesota version of Super Lawyers Magazine.

Greenhouse to Write Monthly Environmental Law Column in State Bar Magazine

ELG attorney Jeremy Greenhouse will be writing a monthly environmental law column for the Minnesota State Bar Association‘s official magazine, Bench & Bar, beginning in September 2017.The column will summarize key state and national legal developments in the areas of environmental, energy, and natural resources law.

Bill Hefner Named Director of A&WMA – UMS Board

Members of the Air & Waste Management Association – Upper Midwest Section have elected ELG attorney Bill Hefner as a Director of the Board of the A&WMA-UMS.  Bill—who replaces outgoing ELG attorney Jon Bloomberg on the Board—will serve a three-year term beginning June 2017.  The mission of A&WMA is to assist in the professional development and critical environmental decision-making of its members to benefit society and its core purpose is to improve environmental knowledge and decisions by providing a neutral forum for exchanging information.

 

For over 35 years, the Upper Midwest Section (UMS) of the Air & Waste Management Association (A&WMA) has provided a forum for Association members who live in Minnesota, Western Wisconsin, and the Dakotas to meet, learn, and network. 

Jon Bloomberg and Bill Hefner to Present Webinar on Administrative Law for Environmental Professionals

ELG attorneys Jon Bloomberg and Bill Hefner will be presenting a two-hour national webinar for the Air and Waste Management Association on Wednesday, July 19, 2017.  The webinar—entitled “Administrative Law for Environmental Professionals”—will address such topics as the legal basis of regulations, the difference between rules and guidance, and key considerations in managing compliance risk.  Registration and additional information about the webinar can be found here.
