ELG Major Presenting Sponsor at Environmental Initiative 2019 Awards Banquet

ELG is once again proud to be a Presenting Sponsor at the Environmental Initiative’s Annual Awards ceremony on May 22, 2019.  Each year, the Awards honor innovative projects that have achieved “extraordinary environmental results by harnessing the power of partnerships.”  This year’s event will honor seven award recipients — five projects and two individuals — during an inspiring night of networking and celebration with Minnesota’s environmental leaders. The evening will include a networking reception with heavy hors d’oeuvres, a seated program highlighting innovative efforts across Minnesota and an opportunity to meet people working at the intersection of a healthy environment, a prosperous economy and an equitable society.

ELG Attorney Jeremy Greenhouse Featured Commentator for Minnesota Litigator Blog

ELG attorney Jeremy Greenhouse was featured April 29, 2019, as a guest commentator for the Minnesota Litigator blog. Jeremy opined on the April 22, 2019, decision from the Minnesota Court of Appeals regarding the Minnesota Environmental Rights Act and the Public Trust Doctrine in the high-profile lawsuit against the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources over water levels in White Bear Lake.

ELG a Sponsor of ACC Minnesota’s Fundraiser for the Children’s Law Center

ELG was proud to be a sponsor of the Association of Corporate Counsel – Minnesota Chapter’s “Casino Royale Celebration Gala on April 27, 2019.  All profits from the Gala benefited the Children’s Law Center of Minnesota, whose staff and volunteer attorneys provide legal representation to children who are either wards of the state – “legal orphans” – or have been removed from their homes because they need protection. CLC also represents foster children who request help. ELG attorney Bill Hefner has been a volunteer CLC attorney since 2004.

ELG Attorney Jeremy Greenhouse to Moderate Panel on Wild Rice Water Quality Standard

ELG attorney Jeremy Greenhouse will be hosting a panel discussion on “Minnesota’s Wild Rice Journey” at the 2019 Minnesota Environmental Institute, Thursday, April 11, 2019, and the Minnesota CLE Conference Center. Minnesota adopted a sulfate water quality standard for the protection of wild rice, harvested by Ojibwe for millennia, in the 1970s. This standard has sparked intense scrutiny, with numerous attempts at rulemaking, legislation and litigation. Panelists Peder A. Larson, Paula Maccabee & Adonis A. Neblett will discuss their experiences on the wild rice journey and answer Mr. Greenhouse’s questions.

Jeremy Greenhouse to speak at Minnesota Groundwater Association Fall Conference

On November 15, 2018, ELG attorney Jeremy Greenhouse will be a featured speaker at the Fall Meeting of the Minnesota Groundwater Association. Jeremy’s talk is titled, “Does the Clean Water Act Regulate Discharges to Groundwater? An Examination of Recent Case Law on the “Conduit Theory.”  The conference will take place at the Continuing Education and Conference Center, University of Minnesota, St. Paul. Jeremy Greenhouse and Jon Bloomberg to Present at 2018 CSWEA/AWMA Conference on the Environment

ELG attorneys Jeremy Greenhouse and Jon Bloomberg will present at this year’s Central States Water Environment/Air and Waste Management Associations – Upper Midwest Section’s Conference on the Environment.  Jeremy will  be speaking on legal and regulatory updates regarding federal and state water law. Jon will appear on a panel discussing the impacts of EPA’s changes to the New Source Review air permitting. Payne and Hefner Named Best Lawyers, Hefner Named Super Lawyer

ELG attorneys Jim Payne and Bill Hefner have again been chosen by their peers for inclusion on the list of The Best Lawyers in America® for 2019 in the area of Environmental Law.  First published in 1983, Best Lawyers employs an exhaustive annual peer-review survey of more than 50,000 attorneys who vote on the legal abilities of other lawyers practicing in the same and related specialties in their geographical area.

Bill also has been selected for inclusion in the 2018 list of Minnesota Super Lawyers.  Super Lawyers, a Thomson Reuters business, is a rating service of attorneys from more than 70 practice areas who have attained a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement. The annual selections are made using a multiphase process that includes a statewide survey of lawyers, an independent research evaluation of candidates and peer reviews by practice area. The Minnesota Super Lawyers list is published online and locally in Minneapolis/St. Paul Magazine, Twin Cities Business and the Minnesota version of Super Lawyers Magazine.
