Greenhouse Publishes “The Ghost of Water Wars Future”

ELG attorney Jeremy Greenhouse‘s latest environmental law article, The Ghosts of Water Wars Future” has been selected as the cover story for the August 2021 edition of the official Minnesota State Bar Association magazine, Bench & Bar. In the article, Greenhouse describes projected freshwater shortages in North America, discusses historical and contemporary attempts to divert water from the Great Lakes to other parts of the country, and examines how well the Great Lakes Compact can stand up to increased political pressure from water-starved states to allow more diversions in the years ahead. In the article, Greenhouse interviews Sherry Enzler, Minnesota Department of Natural Resources general counsel, as well as Peter Johnson, deputy director of the Conference of Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Governors and Premiers and the principal author of the compact.

In Memory of Thad Lightfoot

It is with great sadness that we pass along the news that former ELG partner and firm co-founder Thad Lightfoot passed away last week. Thad was one of four attorneys who started the original Environmental Law Group, Ltd. in 2000, along with Jim Payne, Bob Johnson, and Jim Mennell.  He was an exceptional attorney, a powerful litigator, and a warm and generous person. Thad left ELG in 2012 to become a partner in the regulatory affairs group of Dorsey & Whitney, a role in which he excelled. Thad was a prominent leader in the environmental law community and a mentor and friend
