Jon Bloomberg Accepts Position at Xcel Energy

It is with sadness for ourselves but enthusiasm for him that ELG announces the departure from ELG of our longtime partner and friend Jon Bloomberg. While we will miss Jon, we share his excitement for his new role as in-house counsel at Xcel Energy and wish him all the best. With Jon’s permission, we have pasted below an email update he circulated earlier this month. Jon, thank you, congratulations and good luck!

Jon BloombergAs many of you know, at the end of this month, I will be leaving my firm and starting a new position in the law department at Xcel Energy as the company’s primary air lawyer (but doing other things as well).  I am very excited about this new challenge.  Xcel has operations in 8 states: Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, North Dakota, South Dakota, Colorado, Texas, and New Mexico.   I will be working with those facilities as well as working on air policy issues.  Xcel is the first major utility to announce a goal to supply all carbon-free electricity by 2050 – they (we) will be 80% carbon-free by 2030.  I will be officing in downtown Minneapolis, but will likely be traveling a fair amount. You can get more info about my new employer here:  www.xcelenergy.com .

I leave my practice with very mixed emotions.  My partners are great people as well as excellent lawyers.  I will miss them as colleagues, but I’m not going too far away.  I also will miss our fantastic clients, but I know I am leaving them in extremely capable hands.

 Jon

For questions regarding Jon’s transition from ELG, please feel free to contact Ken Podpeskar, 651-621-2343 or kpodpeskar@envirolawgroup.com.

Wilkie and Gundy v. United States decisions and what those decisions may portend for the regulated community.  Jon and Bill will also provide a brief primer on the attorney-client privilege and the attorney work product doctrine, including their purposes, scopes, applications and limitations.  Details about how to attend the Seminar or watch it online can be found here.

Hefner Named 2020 “Best Lawyer,” “Minneapolis Environmental Lawyer of the Year”

ELG attorney Bill Hefner has again been chosen by his peers for inclusion on the list of The Best Lawyers in America® for 2020.  In addition, Bill was named Best Lawyers’ 2020 Environmental Law “Lawyer of the Year” for Minneapolis.  First published in 1983, Best Lawyers employs an exhaustive annual peer-review survey of more than 50,000 attorneys who vote on the legal abilities of other lawyers practicing in the same and related specialties in their geographical area.  Best Lawyers chooses a single lawyer in a specific practice area and location for its “Lawyer of the Year” designation each year.  Bill is grateful to be selected by his peers in the Minnesota environmental bar for these honors.
