Greenhouse, Hefner, and Podpeskar to Present at, and ELG to Sponsor, 2016 Midwest Environmental Compliance Conference in Chicago

ELG Attorneys Greenhouse and Hefner to Present at 2016 CSWEA/AWMA Conference on the Environment

ELG attorneys Jeremy Greenhouse and Bill Hefner will present at this year’s Central States Water Environment/Air and West Management Associations – Upper Midwest Section’s Conference on the Environment.  Jeremy will be speaking on state and federal Water Law Updates occurring over the last year. Bill will be co presenting a presentation entitled “Innovative Approach at Reducing Air Emissions in Northeast Minneapolis” along with Sarah Kilgriff (MPCA) and Kathryn Anderson (Wenck Associates ) The Conference will be held on November 9, 2016, at the Minneapolis Convention Center.  Further details on the conference can be found here and registration is available here.

Bill Hefner Named 2016 Super Lawyer

Bill Hefner has been selected for inclusion in the 2016 list of Minnesota Super Lawyers.  Super Lawyers, a Thomson Reuters business, is a rating service of attorneys from more than 70 practice areas who have attained a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement. The annual selections are made using a multiphase process that includes a statewide survey of lawyers, an independent research evaluation of candidates and peer reviews by practice area. Environmental Law Network Again Ranked as a Band 1 Global-wide Legal Network

Chambers Global: The World’s Leading Business Lawyers has again recognized the Environmental Law Network (ELN) as a Band 1 Environmental Legal Network for its 2016 edition. Bill Hefner Recognized as 2015 MSBA North Star Lawyer

Bill Hefner has been named a 2015 “North Star Lawyer” by the Minnesota State Bar Association.  Each year, the MSBA recognizes members who have provided 50 hours or more of pro bono legal services.  Bill provided over 70 hours of free legal services last year to five different juvenile clients as a volunteer attorney for the Children’s Law Center of Minnesota.  Staff and volunteer attorneys for the Children’s Law Center provide legal representation to children who are either wards of the state – “legal orphans” – or have been removed from their homes because they are in need of protection. CLC also represents foster children who request help. Bill has been a volunteer CLC attorney since 2004.

Wiens to Speak at Superfund CLE    

Susan Wiens will be speaking at a CLE on Wednesday, February 24, 2016, celebrating the 30th anniversary of Superfund.  Sponsored by the Minnesota State Bar Association’s Environment, Natural Resources and Energy Section, the CLE will examine Superfund’s origins, its current effects on corporate behavior and real estate practices and its likely future.  Susan will speak on the Natural Resource Damages component of Superfund.  As Superfund site remedial actions mature, the DOJ and relevant Trustees are circling back to Responsible Parties seeking Natural Resource Damages that remain post cleanup. Susan will discuss the basic principles for recovery of Natural Resource Damages, potential defenses available to Responsible Parties and how Trustees obtain jurisdiction to recover damages.
