Governor Mark Dayton appoints Bill Hefner to Minnesota Petroleum Tank Release Compensation Board

On June 30, 2014, Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton appointed ELG attorney Bill Hefner to the Minnesota Petroleum Tank Release Compensation Board. Among other things, the Board manages disbursements from the Petrofund, a multi-million dollar fund that provides up to 90 percent reimbursement to certain parties for reasonable and necessary costs incurred in connection with a petroleum tank release. Governor Dayton appointed Bill as the “public” member of the five-member Board, for a term ending on January 1, 2018.

Bench and Bar Magazine ArticleWe are pleased to announce that Minnesota’s state bar magazine, Bench & Bar, has just published an article by ELG attorneys Susan Wiens and Jeremy Greenhouse all about the silica or “frac” sand boom taking place in Minnesota. There is no actual “fracking” going on in Minnesota, but this state does have one of North America’s richest deposits of silica sand, vast quantities of which are required for hydraulic fracturing (i.e. fracking). Jim Payne to Speak on Mining Law at University of Minnesota Law School

On April 15, 2014, ELG attorney Jim Payne will appear as a guest lecturer at the University of Minnesota Law School speaking on environmental law aspects of mining in Minnesota.

On February 25, 2014, ELG attorney Jim Payne will speak to the Minnesota State Bar Association Environmental, Energy and Natural Resources Section on the topic of “Contaminated Sediments—Remediation and Liability.”

Bill Hefner and Jeremy Greenhouse to Speak on Clean Air Act Enforcement at Conference on the Environment

ELG attorneys Bill Hefner and Jeremy Greenhouse will be featured speakers on November 12, 2013, at the 2013 Conference on the Environment, co-sponsored by the Upper Midwest Chapter of the Air and Waste Management Association and the Central States Environmental Association. Mr. Hefner and Mr. Greenhouse will speak on recent trends and case law developments in EPA’s New Source Review enforcement authority under the Clean Air Act and the five-year limitations period in 28 U.S.C. § 2462. Mr. Hefner will give a separate presentation on ever-changing regulation of greenhouse gases.

Jeremy Greenhouse to Speak on Environmental Law at St. Thomas University Law School

On October 23, 2013, ELG attorney Jeremy Greenhouse will appear as part of a panel at an event sponsored by the St. Thomas Law School environmental law section on careers in environmental law.
