Susan Wiens counsels clients with environmental regulatory compliance issues as well as environmental litigation or threatened litigation concerns. Her practice includes environmental, health and safety audits, defense of federal environmental criminal investigations and compliance counseling regarding state and federal water and wetlands laws and regulations. She has represented clients in administrative hearings before the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission and defended clients in the State of Minnesota’s first environmental sting operation. She has represented clients in environmental class action lawsuits, as well as patent litigation involving environmental remediation technology. Her practice includes the representation of Minnesota counties and cities in redevelopment efforts, assisting with land-use planning and environmental review. Susan also assists corporate clients with the redevelopment of brownfields, associated remediation efforts and recovery of remediation costs. With more than twenty years of experience, Susan has represented large and small corporations, privately held corporations, individuals and local governmental authorities.

In February 2014, Susan joined The Environmental Law Group, Ltd. as an Of Counsel attorney. Susan began her environmental law career in 1989 in the Environmental Law Group at Oppenheimer Wolff and Donnelly, then transferred her environmental law practice to Popham, Haik, Schnobrich & Kaufman, Ltd. in 1994. She joined the Minneapolis law firm Greene Espel, PLLP, in 1996, where she became a partner in 1997. Susan switched gears in 2002 becoming Vice-President of Operations for a privately held company in the legal services sector. She managed offices in multiple states, was responsible for large teams of lawyers and staff and delivered nation-wide legal training to senior lawyers and judges. From 2008 to February 2014, Susan arbitrated disputes for various federal agencies and opened her own law firm.

Susan received her Juris Doctor degree, cum laude, from William Mitchell College of Law where she was a Staff Writer for the William Mitchell Law Review. Susan obtained a Bachelor of Science degree, cum laude, from Winona State University.
