Vanessa Johnson’s legal practice consists of environmental compliance counseling and environmental litigation work. She has wide-ranging environmental law experience, including handling matters involving hazardous waste, RCRA, CERCLA, the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act, OSHA and state and federal wetland development and mitigation issues. In addition, Vanessa has experience in real estate law matters associated with environmental concerns. This includes contract review and drafting, and the allocation of liabilities created by environmental issues.
Vanessa began her career in the environmental group of Oppenheimer Wolff & Donnelly (now Fox Rothschild). Vanessa later became a founder and co-owner of The Wetlands Company LLC, whose mission was to develop wetland creation and restoration projects for purposes of wetland mitigation. Vanessa was also a founding partner of Igel & Johnson LLC, a law firm dedicated to advising clients on environmental law matters and assisting state regulatory agencies on drafting proposed legislation. This experience included contract drafting, negotiation, and project management as well as extensive involvement with regulatory compliance and regulatory approval processes. Most recently, Vanessa served as the Director of Regulatory Affairs and Operations for the Agriculture & Turf division of National Carbon Technologies. Vanessa’s extensive environment-related business experience enables her to bring a practical, business-centric approach to handling environmental law matters.
Vanessa graduated Order of the Coif from the University of Iowa College of Law. While in law school, she was a writer for the Iowa Law Review and Editor for the Journal of Transnational Law and Contemporary Problems.
