Bill Hefner to Present on COVID-19 “Regulatory Flexibility”

ELG Attorney Bill Hefner will co-present a free one-hour webinar this Friday, April 3, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. CST entitled, “Environmental Compliance during the COVID-19 Pandemic: Agency Guidance and Industry Considerations.”  Bill and his co-presenter will discuss existing mechanisms available to the regulated community to seek relief from compliance requirements and will discuss and compare “regulatory flexibility” guidance recently issued by the Environmental Protection Agency and select upper Midwest state environmental regulatory agencies.  The webinar will be sponsored by the Air & Waste Management Association – Upper Midwest Section .  Interested parties may register here.

Hefner and Bloomberg to Present Fall 2019 Air & Waste Management Association – Upper Midwest Section Legal Seminar

ELG attorneys Jon Bloomberg and Bill Hefner will present their annual Legal Seminar for the Air & Waste Management Association – Upper Midwest Section on Wednesday, October 16, 2019.  The focus of this year’s Seminar will be on the U.S. Supreme Court’s recent Kisor v. Wilkie and Gundy v. Hefner Named 2020 “Best Lawyer,” “Minneapolis Environmental Lawyer of the Year”

ELG attorney Bill Hefner has again been chosen by his peers for inclusion on the list of The Best Lawyers in America® for 2020.  In addition, Bill was named Best Lawyers’ 2020 Environmental Law “Lawyer of the Year” for Minneapolis.  First published in 1983, Best Lawyers employs an exhaustive annual peer-review survey of more than 50,000 attorneys who vote on the legal abilities of other lawyers practicing in the same and related specialties in their geographical area.  Best Lawyers chooses a single lawyer in a specific practice area and location for its “Lawyer of the Year” designation each year.  Bill is grateful to be selected by his peers in the Minnesota environmental bar for these honors.

The annual selections are made using a multiphase process that includes a statewide survey of lawyers, an independent research evaluation of candidates and peer reviews by practice area. The Minnesota Super Lawyers list is published online and locally in Minneapolis/St. Paul Magazine, Twin Cities Business and the Minnesota version of Super Lawyers Magazine.  Bill has been named a Super Lawyer in 2004, 2008 and each year since 2015. Bill is grateful to be selected by his peers in the Minnesota environmental bar for these honors.

ELG a Sponsor of ACC Minnesota’s Fundraiser for the Children’s Law Center

ELG was proud to be a sponsor of the Association of Corporate Counsel – Minnesota Chapter’s “Casino Royale Celebration Gala on April 27, 2019.  All profits from the Gala benefited the Children’s Law Center of Minnesota, whose staff and volunteer attorneys provide legal representation to children who are either wards of the state – “legal orphans” – or have been removed from their homes because they need protection. CLC also represents foster children who request help. ELG attorney Bill Hefner has been a volunteer CLC attorney since 2004.

Hefner Recognized as 2017 MSBA North Star Lawyer


Bill Hefner has been named a 2017 “North Star Lawyer” by the Minnesota State Bar Association.  Each year, the MSBA recognizes members who have provided 50 hours or more of pro bono legal services.  Bill provided over 55 hours of free legal services last year to four different juvenile clients as a volunteer attorney for the Children’s Law Center of Minnesota.  Staff and volunteer attorneys for the Children’s Law Center provide legal representation to children who are either wards of the state – “legal orphans” – or have been removed from their homes because they are in need of protection. CLC also represents foster children who request help. Bill has been a volunteer CLC attorney since 2004.
