Environmental Law Attorney Vanessa Johnson Joins ELG

Attorney Vanessa Johnson Joins ELG

Vanessa Johnson’s legal practice consists of environmental compliance counseling and environmental litigation work. She has wide-ranging environmental law experience, including handling matters involving hazardous waste, RCRA, CERCLA, the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act, OSHA and state and federal wetland development and mitigation issues. In addition, Vanessa has experience in real estate law matters associated with environmental concerns. This includes contract review and drafting, and the allocation of liabilities created by environmental issues. Prior to joining ELG, Vanessa practiced environmental law at Oppenheimer Wolff & Donnelly (now Fox Rothschild) and Igel & Johnson LLC, she was a founder and co-owner of The Wetlands Company LLC, and most recently served as Director of Regulatory Affairs and Operations for the Agriculture & Turf division of National Carbon Technologies. Vanessa’s extensive environment-related business experience enables her to bring a practical, business-centric approach to handling environmental law matters.

Vanessa graduated Order of the Coif from the University of Iowa College of Law, where she was a writer for the Iowa Law Review and Editor for the Journal of Transnational Law and Contemporary Problems.

Wiens to Speak at Superfund CLE    

Susan Wiens will be speaking at a CLE on Wednesday, February 24, 2016, celebrating the 30th anniversary of Superfund.  Sponsored by the Minnesota State Bar Association’s Environment, Natural Resources and Energy Section, the CLE will examine Superfund’s origins, its current effects on corporate behavior and real estate practices and its likely future.  Susan will speak on the Natural Resource Damages component of Superfund.  As Superfund site remedial actions mature, the DOJ and relevant Trustees are circling back to Responsible Parties seeking Natural Resource Damages that remain post cleanup. Susan will discuss the basic principles for recovery of Natural Resource Damages, potential defenses available to Responsible Parties and how Trustees obtain jurisdiction to recover damages. Jim Payne to Speak on Superfund

On Wednesday, November 12, 2014, ELG attorney Jim Payne will be speaking to the Minnesota Groundwater Association as a member of a panel addressing the Superfund cleanup process in Minnesota.
