Environmental Law Attorney Vanessa Johnson Joins ELG

Attorney Vanessa Johnson Joins ELG

Vanessa Johnson’s legal practice consists of environmental compliance counseling and environmental litigation work. She has wide-ranging environmental law experience, including handling matters involving hazardous waste, RCRA, CERCLA, the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act, OSHA and state and federal wetland development and mitigation issues. In addition, Vanessa has experience in real estate law matters associated with environmental concerns. This includes contract review and drafting, and the allocation of liabilities created by environmental issues. Prior to joining ELG, Vanessa practiced environmental law at Oppenheimer Wolff & Donnelly (now Fox Rothschild) and Igel & Johnson LLC, she was a founder and co-owner of The Wetlands Company LLC, and most recently served as Director of Regulatory Affairs and Operations for the Agriculture & Turf division of National Carbon Technologies. Vanessa’s extensive environment-related business experience enables her to bring a practical, business-centric approach to handling environmental law matters.

Vanessa graduated Order of the Coif from the University of Iowa College of Law, where she was a writer for the Iowa Law Review and Editor for the Journal of Transnational Law and Contemporary Problems.

Jeremy Greenhouse to Participate in Webinar on SCOTUS County of Maui Decision

On Thursday April 30, 2020, from 1:30 to 2:30 CT, ELG attorney Jeremy P. Greenhouse will co-present a webinar along with Nick Nelson and Rob Morrison of Barr Engineering Co. to discuss the U.S. Supreme Court’s April 23 decision on County of Maui v. Hawaii Wildlife Fund. The presentation will provide an overview of the decision and consider its impact upon NPDES permitting applicability for discharges of wastewater to groundwater. Ken Podpeskar Elected to MSBA ENRE Council

ELG partner Ken Podpeskar has been re-elected by his peers in the Minnesota State Bar Association’s Environmental, Natural Resources and Energy Section to serve as a member of the Section’s Governing Council.

Ken concentrates his practice on compliance counseling, spill reporting and remediation, Superfund cleanups, property transfers, and solid and hazardous waste issues.

The ENRE Section’s purpose is to facilitate the exchange of information and ideas among Minnesota lawyers active in the practice of environmental, natural resources, and energy law, and to educate members of the Section with respect to current issues in those areas.  The Section’s Governing Council is responsible for developing and implementing the Section’s various educational offerings, internship programs, and initiatives.    Ken’s third two-year term as a Council member will begin in July 2019.

ELG Attorney Jeremy Greenhouse Featured Commentator for Minnesota Litigator Blog

ELG attorney Jeremy Greenhouse was featured April 29, 2019, as a guest commentator for the Minnesota Litigator blog. Jeremy opined on the April 22, 2019, decision from the Minnesota Court of Appeals regarding the Minnesota Environmental Rights Act and the Public Trust Doctrine in the high-profile lawsuit against the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources over water levels in White Bear Lake.

ELG Attorney Jeremy Greenhouse to Moderate Panel on Wild Rice Water Quality Standard

ELG attorney Jeremy Greenhouse will be hosting a panel discussion on “Minnesota’s Wild Rice Journey” at the 2019 Minnesota Environmental Institute, Thursday, April 11, 2019, and the Minnesota CLE Conference Center. Minnesota adopted a sulfate water quality standard for the protection of wild rice, harvested by Ojibwe for millennia, in the 1970s. This standard has sparked intense scrutiny, with numerous attempts at rulemaking, legislation and litigation. Panelists Peder A. Larson, Paula Maccabee & Adonis A. Neblett will discuss their experiences on the wild rice journey and answer Mr. Greenhouse’s questions.

Bloomberg and Hefner to Present Webinar on Title V Certification Risk Management
